MARDAN: A woman schoolteacher was gunned down for honour in Thazagram area of Katlang tehsil when she was on her way to school, locals and police officials said here on Saturday.

The officials at Kharki police station said that their preliminary investigations suggested that the slain teacher of government girls’ higher secondary school, Qasimi, was shot dead for honour.

They said that the victim was going to her school in a van when the vehicle was intercepted. The accused, her brother, pulled her out of the vehicle in the Thazagram Chowk and shot her dead.

The police also collected evidence from the crime scene. The body of the teacher was taken to a hospital for completing medico-legal procedures.

The Kharki police registered FIR on the complaint of the father of the slain woman against his son.

In the FIR, he stated that his daughter aged 30 had contracted court marriage some six months ago after running away from her house. The complainant also told the police that the accused was unhappy over the action of his sister, and had since been in search of her to kill her at any cost.

The police said that they were making efforts to arrest the accused.
