KARACHI: A policeman was shot dead and three others were wounded in what investigators described as a targeted attack near Patel Para on Saturday morning.

Jamshed Quarters SHO Imtiaz Husain Shah said that Head Constable Qamar Zaman, 45, along with three other persons, was sitting at an eatery in Patel Para when assailants riding a motorcycle emerged there, fired shots and rode away.

He said that Qamar, Faizan Ahsan, 35, Tahir Salam, 40, and Arsalan Ali, 40, suffered bullet wounds and they were taken to the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi, where doctors declared the policeman dead.

The area SHO said that it was an incident of ‘targeted killing’ as the martyred officer had been working against criminals.

The police said that Qamar was currently posted at the CIA-Saddar. However, in the past he had worked with the then Crime Investigation Department which is now called Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD). CTD official Raja Umer Khattab said that the policeman was known as Qamar CID Wala when he was working with slain CID SSP Chaudhry Aslam.

Later in the day, the funeral prayer for the martyred policeman was held at the Garden Police Headquarters, which was attended by senior police officials.
