KARACHI: A young man was shot dead by robbers in Gulshan-i-Iqbal on Saturday evening.

Police said that Irtaqa Nadeem, 27, purchased some eatables from a bakery in Block-7 and was heading home on his motorcycle when armed motorcyclists intercepted him, held him at gunpoint and demanded his two-wheeler.

The police said that the young man put up resistance and the robbers shot him, snatched his new motorbike and cell phone and rode away. He died on the spot.

The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities.

The police said that the victim was a mechanical engineer by profession and the recipient of a gold medal .

Two suspects shot dead in ‘encounter’

Two suspected robbers were gunned down in an alleged encounter in North Nazimabad on Saturday evening.

Central SSP Zeeshan Shafiq Siddiqi said that armed muggers were looting a citizen near the Board Office intersection when a Shaheen Force patrol reached there.

He said that both the suspects were killed in an ensuing exchange of gunfire. A .30-bore pistol, cell phone and a motorcycle were recovered from their custody, he added.

The bodies were shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities. Their identity could not be ascertained till late in the night.
