RAWALPINDI: The Punjab Planning and Development Department gave its approval for the expansion of the Kutchery Chowk project worth Rs1.8 billion, with the work likely to start in the next fiscal year 2024–25.

A senior official of the communication and works department said work would start after land acquisition was completed. He said 45 kanals would be acquired from different government departments and private owners.

As many as 14.685 kanals will be acquired from Fatima Jinnah Women University, 10.205 kanals from Army land, 7.285 kanals from district courts, 2.371 kanals from private land in Nazar Chowk, 0.735 kanals from local government offices, 3.046 kanals from income tax offices, 5.063 kanals from police lines and 1.819 kanals from Jinnah Park.

He said Rs450 million was allocated for the parking plaza and Rs130 million for the pedestrian bridge, and it would improve the parking issue in district courts.
