WITH the mercury soaring to 50 degrees Celsius in parts of the country, the masses have been struggling to keep pace with their daily routines. Among the most vulnerable are school-going children and office-going workers. Indeed, school and work are critical elements in one’s life, but nothing should come at the cost of one’s life.
If past is something to go by, we would do well to learn from the heatwaves that hit a number of cities, particularly Karachi, a few years ago, claiming many a life. In such a scenario, school adminis- trations as well as relevant government authorities should revisit the academic calendar and adjust school timingsfor students’ wellbeing.
Similarly, offices need to adopt flexible work hours for their employees. Work-from-home arrangements should be encouraged as long as they do not disrupt the workflow.
By implementing such measures, we can mitigate the impact of heatwaves.
