ISLAMABAD/TAXILA: During a crackdown, the Islamabad Electric Supply Company (Iesco) Attock circle recovered a sum of Rs104,300 from power pilferers.

This was informed by the Iesco officials during a meeting held in Attock on Sunday to review the progress of crackdown on electricity pilferers in the district, which was presided over by Deputy Commissioner Rao Atif Raza. Superintendent Engineer Attock Circle Ghulam Sarwar, Executive Engineer Babar Ali, Coordinator Ghulam Fareed and other officials of the local administration and Iesco were also present on the occasion.

Mr Sarwar informed the participants that a comprehensive and indiscriminate campaign against power pilferers and defaulters was launched in all six tehsils of Attock.

He said that during this month, three people were arrested for electricity theft after the registration of FIRs.

He said the cooperation of provincial authorities was essential for controlling electricity theft and making recoveries from defaulters. He said electricity theft and the non-payment of dues not only affected the financial affairs of the company but also had wider economic implications.

Crush plant sealed for power theft

The Iesco team also sealed a crushing plant in Taxila on Sunday, which was connected to a direct power supply.

According to a statement, on the instructions of Energy Minister Sardar Owais Ahmed Leghari, the indiscriminate and nonstop crackdown was going on in all operation circles of Iesco under the supervision of Chief Executive Dr Mohammad Amjad Khan.

On Sunday, Executive Engineer Taxila Shahid Jadoon, along with SDO Taxila and the local police force, checked the stone crushing plant, which was connected in the name of Noor Zaman, and the sanctioned load was 149 KW.

The teams found that the plant was using a direct power supply. The detection teams and the police cut off the connection after collecting evidence and sealed the plant.
