NAROWAL: Five people were injured when a speeding oil tanker hit two motorcycles before it overturned in Sheikhupura on Tuesday.
According to Rescue 1122 spokesperson Tajumal Hussain, the oil tanker hit two motorcycles near Dhantpura Bus Stop on the Sargodha Road and overturned. Oil had started leaking on the road from the oil tanker.
Ambulances and fire engines immediately reached the spot on receiving the information. The rescuers provided first aid to the injured and shifted them to the District Headquarters Hospital.
The injured were identified as Zeeshan Ali (30), Muhammad Riaz (31), Muhammad Qamar (21), Abdul Rauf (35) and Saeed Ahmed (19).
According to hospital sources, the condition of two motorcyclists is critical.
To stop the oil leak from the tanker and to counter any danger of fire, the fire brigade washed the road with water and transferred oil from the overturned tanker to another.
Police diverted the traffic passing to an alternative route. After three hours of efforts, Rescue 1122 completed the operation and restored the traffic.
The Rescue 1122 spokesperson said seven rescue vehicles participated in the operation supervised by district emergency officer engineer Rana Ejaz Ahmed.
