PESHAWAR: Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences of Khyber Medical University celebrated Urdu Day by organising an event titled ‘Bazam-i-Sukhnwaran’ and ‘Mushaira Bayad Jaun Eliya’ here on Tuesday.

The event, arranged in collaboration with director sports and youth affairs, was attended by KMU Vice-chancellor Prof Ziaul Haq, Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences Director Dr Sami Siraj, Director of Sports Nasir Salim Arab, Chief Proctor Dr Haji Bahadur and guests and poets including Dr Sajid Rahim, Umar Anwar, Dam Mehdi and Khawar Bhatti.

According to a press release, faculty members and students from all KMU campus and institutes also actively participated in the event.

Dr Sami Siraj, in his opening address, extended a warm welcome to all participants, emphasising the celebration of Urdu Day and its significance in highlighting the rich tapestry of Urdu literature and culture.

He shed light on the intersection of Urdu literature and medical science education, underscoring the value and relevance of Urdu literature in enhancing medical knowledge and understanding.

Abidullah, the president of Urdu Literary Society at Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, delivered an introductory speech and welcomed guests.

The program featured a diverse array of segments including a poetry recitation session, showcasing the talent of poets, discussions on poetry by students and poignant skits depicting the plight of oppressed communities in Palestine.

A discussion was also held on the importance of Urdu literature, its mpact and significance in contemporary society.

The event served as a platform for fostering appreciation for Urdu literature and culture besides promoting dialogue on pressing social issues.
