QUETTA/LAHORE: Sheikh Jaffar Khan Mandokhail is scheduled to be sworn in as the new governor of Balochistan in a ceremony at Governor House on Monday (today). The oath will be administered by Justice Muhammad Hashim Khan Kakar, the chief justice of the Balochistan High Court.

Mr Mandokhail’s appointment as the 24th governor of Balochistan was confirmed on Saturday by President Asif Zardari on a recommendation from PM Shehbaz Sharif.

Mr Mandokhail, a PML-N leader, previously served as the finance minister, minister for planning and development, minister for education, and minister for revenue in various Balochistan governments.

He left the party in 2002 and joined PML-Q. However, he returned to the PML-N fold two years ago and was appointed the party’s provincial president.

Mr Mandokhail recently ran for the provincial assembly from his traditional constituency in Zhob but was unsuccessful.

Meanwhile, the oath-taking ceremony of the nominated Punjab governor, Sardar Saleem Haider, has been postponed for some unavoidable circumstances, PPP’s Central Punjab General Secretary Syed Hassan Murtaza said on Sunday. The ceremony will now be held on Tuesday.
