CHITRAL: After a long gap of five years, the four-day Kagh Lusht festival will begin on Thursday (today) in Upper Chitral district.

The festival is held in the plateau of Kagh Lusht situated at the confluence of Mastuj, Mulkhow and Torkhow valleys.

Upper Chitral deputy commissioner Mohammad Irfanuddin told Dawn that due to the frequent rainfall this year, the plateau had turned lush green giving it a fantastic view attracting tourists in large numbers.

He said that the competitions of polo, football, volleyball and a number of folk and traditional sports, including folk dance, tug-of-war, weight-lifting and throwing, firing with obsolete and outdated weapons and mountain race would be the highlights of the festival.

He said that arrangements had been made to provide all sorts of facilities to visitors coming from Upper and Lower Chitral districts. He said that a tent village had been established in the vicinity of the venue of the festival, while makeshift shops and restaurants were also opened.
