RAWALPINDI: As part of improving aviation security, the Islamabad International Airport (IIAP) recently hosted a ‘Threat Image Recognition Training’, in collaboration with the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA) and the United Kingdom’s Department for Transport (UKDfT).

According to the CAA spokesperson, the ceremony included a certificate-awarding session, which was graced by British High Commission in Pakistan Jane Marriott, Head of Security and Justice Dr Joe Whittle.

The training, organised by CAA and conducted by the UKDfT, equipped participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel as X-Ray screening certification auditors.

With the support of cutting-edge hardware and software provided by the UKDfT, the participants were able to enhance their screening capabilities and raise security standards in the aviation industry.

This successful collaboration between Pakistan and the UK is a testament to the strong partnership and mutual respect shared between the two countries. Besides, the close coordination between PCAA and UKDfT played a crucial role in facilitating this groundbreaking training initiative.

The participants of the training programme primarily consisted of AVSEC Regulatory Officers and Inspectors, with representatives from other entities such as Pakistan Customs, Airport Security Force, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), and Karsaz also in attendance.

PCAA Director of Aviation Security, retired Air Commodore Shahid Qadir, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the UKDfT for their unwavering support and dedication to advancing aviation security.

This collaborative effort marked a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to ensure the safety and security of the national aviation infrastructure.

The participants included Junaid Jalil, DDG (NNDA) from Pakistan Customs, and IIAP COO/Airport Manager Syed Aftab Gillani.
