KARACHI: Inspector General of Police Sindh, Ghulam Nabi Memon on Thursday took notice of videos went viral on social media allegedly showing a young son of DIG East Azfar Mahesar firing guns into the air.

The IG Sindh said that he had ordered an inquiry against the DIG East and directed the Additional IGP of Karachi to carry out the inquiry. It would also be investigated as to whether the weapons used in the firing were official or not, he said. After completion of the inquiry, a departmental action would be initiated, the officer added.

“No one would be allowed to spread fear and chaos like this,” vowed the provincial police chief.

The videos circulating on social media show a young man sitting outside a building on a plastic chair, firing a small gun into the air every few seconds. He then switches to a rifle, loads it, and fires in a straight direction. The video also features a person wearing a police uniform without his face visible.

In a separate video, rifles are seen placed next to a plant pot, accompanied by another individual in uniform seated nearby. In a subsequent clip, the rifles are displayed on a sofa alongside a police cap, with the camera then shifting focus to a picture of Mr Mahesar in his police uniform. There are also additional videos feature young boys driving around and firing guns into the air while traversing the roads. The videos circulating on social media share the common factor of featuring the young boy’s face.

Meanwhile, DIG East Azfar Mahesar told Dawn that these videos had been ‘edited’ and he was ‘inquiring’ into the matter.
