KARACHI, March 9: The Stop The War Coalition (STWC), an organization of generally left-wing liberal political elements, on Thursday condemned the US invasion and occupation of Iraq, saying that it was based on a ‘big lie’ about the weapons of mass destruction to disguise the strategy actually aimed at controlling Iraq’s energy resources.

This was spelt out in a resolution adopted by the STWC’s political committee which met under the chairmanship of its convenor Mairaj Mohammad Khan. The meeting was attended by Rashid Rabbani, Rafique Engineer, Usman Baloch, Zafar Aslam, Sher Mohammad Baloch, Khan Amanullah Khan, Khwaja Tariq, Yusuf Mastikhan, Zubair Ahmad, Taj Marri, Azhar Jamil, Sardar Nabi Khan and others.

It maintained that after being defeated physically and bogged down by the resistance of the valiant Iraqi people, the United States was now trying to divide Iraq on sectarian and ethnic lines to ignite the flames of a civil war in that country.
