HYDERABAD, March 8: About 250 people from different districts will be trained as gardeners over three years to increase fruit and vegetable production. This was stated by Sindh secretary for agriculture Mahkum Din Qadri on Wednesday. He was inaugurating a three-month course at the Agriculture Train-ing Institute Sakrand, organized by the directorate, training, agriculture extension department.

He said 50 candidates had been selected for the course on the basis of merit. He said training programmes could play an important role in changing growers’ mindset towards adoption of latest crop technologies and increasing their farm produce.

He advised growers to produce quality fruits and vegetables as required in the WTO regime. The agriculture secretary said the government had approved a three-year scheme under which 300 agriculture officers and field assistants would be imparted technical knowledge so that they could guide growers.—Bureau
