PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has said it is considering to set up a special security force for permanent deployment at sensitive installations in the province.

The proposal about “Security Division” came under discussion in a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur here on Wednesday.

Provincial chief secretary Nadeem Aslam Chauhdry, inspector general of police Akhtar Hayat Khan Gandapur, additional chief secretary (home) Mohammad Abid Majeed, principal secretary to the chief minister Amjad Ali Khan, administrative secretaries, and police officials also attended the meeting and discussed the overall law and order situation in the province, according to an official statement issued by the Chief Minister’s House.

Officials told Dawn that the proposed security force would comprise new recruits as well as personnel of the Frontier Reserve Police, and it would be permanently deployed at sensitive installations, including the Chief Minister’s House, Governor’s House, prisons, civil secretariat, and other key buildings.

They said currently, personnel from police stations were deployed at such places, but they would be replaced by officials of the proposed security division.

The officials said the new force’s deployment at sensitive installations would be permanent.

The chief minister also ordered the release Rs3 billion to procure the latest weaponry and equipment for the province’s police.

The amount will be spent on the procurement of armoured personnel carriers, enabling the force to effectively deal with prevailing law and order challenges in the province, according to the statement.

Mr Gandapur also issued directions for the speedy execution of the safe city project in all divisional headquarters.

He asked the police to allocate a one-time special employment quota for legal heirs of martyred personnel and said a proper case for the purpose should be prepared for approval by the provincial cabinet.

Approval of that quota will lead to the immediate recruitment of the martyred police personnel’s children, who have long been awaiting jobs in the police department.

In the meeting, the chief minister announced that the heirs of martyred police personnel would be covered by the government’s Ramazan Relief Package.

He added that those families would also be provided with Rs10,000 in cash.

Mr Gandapur also directed the police to formulate a viable policy for providing security to very important persons in the province.
