DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Peshawar High Court Chief Justice Mohammad Ibrahim Khan has said that lawyers should play their role in providing speedy justice to people.

He said lawyers’ legitimate complaints would be addressed on priority.

Justice Ibrahim expressed these views while addressing a function organised by the Dera district bar association here on Friday.

“I spent about a year as a sessions judge in Dera Ismail Khan and always tried to ensure justice in every way,” Justice Ibrahim said.

He said judges had to fix all kinds of petitions for hearing, particularly those where prompt decisions were required.

Earlier, Justice Ibrahim visited the central jail and met prisoners and listened to their problems.

On this occasion, jail superintendent Samiullah Shinwari briefed the chief justice regarding the security arrangements at the prison, capacity of prisoners, repair of barracks and other projects.

PHC additional registrar Dera division bench Ghulam Abbas, district and sessions judge Usman Wali, labour court judge Inamullah Khan, office-bearers of the High Court Bar Association and district bar were also present on the occasion.

EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS CLOSED: Educational institutions, including universities, were closed on Friday after the higher education department issued a notification for the same over security reasons.

Parents also rushed to the educational institutions to pick their children. Private schools and colleges also got closed.

Secretary higher education Arshad Khan told Dawn on contact that the closure of educational institutions was due to the processions regarding Khatm-i-Nabuwat being taken out in some districts. He said the decision was made in interest of students.

After the issuance of the notification, Agriculture University, Dera, and Wensam College, which is affiliated with Gomal University, were also closed.
