CHARSADDA: A local court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment and also imposed a fine of Rs0.5 million on him for killing his wife.

The court of additional sessions judge, Ishtiaq Ahmed, acquitted two accomplices of the accused, Raj Wali, owing to lack of evidence against them.

Police said that Raj Wali killed his wife Iqra Bibi on November 30, 2019, after three months of their marriage over a petty dispute. They said that the accused was a drug addict.

Naeem, the brother of the deceased woman, lodged FIR at Sardheri police station against Raj Wali and his two alleged accomplices Shafiq and Usman. However, the court acquitted Shafiq and Usman owing to lack of evidence.

TEACHERS: Former commissioner Muntazer Khan has said that teachers have heavy responsibility to equip the new generation with modern education and pay attention to their future.

He was addressing opening ceremony of a private school, King Edward School, here as a special guest.

Director of the school Mian Shah Faisal Kakakhel, principal Mehwish and president of Muhammadzai Union of Journalists Faiz Mohammad also spoke on the occasion.

Muntazer Khan said that free education should be provided to talented poor students in the school along with contemporary education and religious studies.

Other speakers said that development of the country depended on education system. They said that provision of quality education was need of the hour. They added that practical steps should be taken to enrol out-of-school children so that they could play a key role in the development of the country.

BURIAL: The director general of Provincial Health Services Academy, Dr Jamal Nasir, who died the other day, was laid to rest in his native village in Charsadda. His funeral prayers were attended by people from all walks of life including political leaders and officials of health department.

The deceased was the father of Dr Zarik Jamal, son of PPP leader Mukhtiyar Hashtnagri, and elder brother of QWP district chairman Qaiser Jamal, Kamran Khan, Irfan Khan, Adnan Khan and late Tahir Jamal.
