RAWALPINDI: A police official was suspended and charged after he was found guilty of torturing journalists during PTI’s protest in front of the Divisional Election Commission Rawalpindi on Sunday.

After the incident came to light, Regional Police Officer Syed Khurram Ali and City Police Officer (CPO) Syed Khalid Hamdani ordered an inquiry into the incident and appointed SP Rawalpindi Faisal Saleem as inquiry officer.

Following an inquiry conducted by SP Saleem, it was found that Yasir Khan, constable posted at Police Station Pirwadhai, displayed extreme arrogant behaviour and flouted the orders of his seniors regarding dispersing the protesters, which amounts to gross misconduct and inefficiency.

“This shows that you are a highly irresponsible, negligent, and careless police officer; therefore, you appear to be guilty of misconduct and inefficiency, said the SP in his report.

Meanwhile, City Police Officer Syed Khalid Hamdani posted on Thursday three Station House Officers (SHOs) in the Rawalpindi district.

A spokesman for the police said that Sajjad Ul Hassan, inspector, has been posted as SHO Kallar Syedan, replacing Subtain ul Hasnain, sub-inspector, who has been posted as SHO Pirwadhai.

Tayyab Zaheer Baig, a sub-inspector, has been posted as SHO Waris Khan police station.
