HANGU, March 3: A Frontier Reserve Police (FRP) official claimed on Friday to have thwarted a terrorist attack on a mosque when he detained a man who was carrying a hand-grenade and a wireless set in the main Hangu bazaar.

The accused identified as Mohammad Qais, son of Israf Ali, was stopped and questioned by FRP constable Mastan Khan near the Purdil Mosque a little before the Friday prayers.

Sources said the FRP official who was on duty near the mosque found a hand-grenade and a wireless in the suspect’s possession. Later, the official handed the man over to police.

The sources said that the accused had confessed during preliminary interrogation that he had come to the area with ulterior motives. They said he had been found loitering around the mosque before he was stopped by the official. A case has been registered against the man in the Hangu city police station.
