BAHAWALNAGAR, March 1: Punjab Governor Khalid Maqbool has said that people should maintain harmony, brotherhood and tolerance and not to be hoodwinked by those who were politicising the cartoons issue.

Speaking at an open court here at Bahawalnagar Canal Rest House here on Wednesday, the governor said the caricatures caused grief and anguish among the Muslim world and “we should remain peaceful in protesting against the blasphemy.”

The governor said preliminary work on the project of supply of gas to Bahawalnagar, Pakpattan and Vehari districts had been started.

He said under the project, 200,000 gas connections would be provided at a cost of Rs2 billion. He said the widening of eastern Sadqia canal was under progress and it would cost Rs22 million.

He said remodelling of Fordwah Canal would also be carried out.

Earlier, the governor visited the Mepco office.

Later, he attended a reception arranged by Islamia University Bahawalnagar sub-campus where he inspected the computer lab and library and talked to students about their education and problems.

He also visited Nadra offices and branches of Zarai Taraqiati and Khushali banks. ZTBL manager Dr Sher Muhammad Nadeem told the governor that the bank had provided Rs1.59 billion to 3,7000 farmers.
