KARACHI, March 1: Three persons died in separate road accidents in various parts of the city on Wednesday. A young student was knocked down by a speeding truck near Water Pump Traffic Intersection in F B Area.

Police said Munir Zafar, 19, was going on his motorcycle when a speeding truck knocked him down and sped away. The injured was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.

An unidentified young man was knocked down by a minibus near Banaras Chowk in Pirabad. Police said that the victim in his early 30’s was crossing the main road near Banaras Traffic signal when the speeding minibus hit him.

He was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police claimed to have impounded the minibus of route N-5 and arrested the driver.

In another incident, a young man, identified as Ramash, 35, died in a hit and run accident on Mauripur Road.

The victim died on the spot. His body was sent to Civil Hospital for legal formalities.

KILLED: Body of a young man was recovered in Surjani Town on Wednesday, police said.

They said the body was found in the bushes in Khuda ki basti.

ARRESTED: Lyari town police arrested five robbers and recovered 50 stolen cell phones and unlicensed weapons from them.

A special unit of the police the Lyari task force signalled three suspects to stop in Rexer Lane in Kalakot. Instead, the suspects fired at the police and tried to flee. After a brief shootout, the police arrested Mohammad Shabbir, Mohamamd Farzan, and Shamim. Three TT pistols and 30 cell phones were recovered from them, police said.

The Chakiwara police, after brief exchange of fire, arrested Ali Mohammad alias Baba and Faisal alias Dada and recovered two TT pistols and 20 cell phones from them.

ROBBED: A PML leader, Ajaz Khokhar, was robbed of his cell phones and cash by three armed persons in DHA on Wednesday.

Mr Khokhar, told Dawn that as he came to his residence in Defence Corner, three armed suspects on a motorcycle intercepted him and deprived him of two expensive cell phones, cash of Rs 18,000 and a wrist watch.

He said the suspects also robbed two other persons of their cell phones before fleeing.
