KARACHI, March 1: Secretary General of the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) Iqbal Haider has expressed concern over the increasing number of citizens being kidnapped or illegally arrested.

In a statement issued here on Wednesday, he said that the HRCP was continuously receiving complaints of kidnapping and disappearance of citizens from various parts of the country.

Mr Haider also expressed concern over the situation where people were being taken away without anyone being informed about the place of their detention. This, he pointed out, was violation of the constitution, laws, human rights and civilized norms.

Law-enforcement agencies must disclose the charge under which a person is picked up or detained and should also specify the law applied, as well as the place of detention. They should also identify the court if the person is required to be produced before a judge.—PPI
