HARIPUR: College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) has declared District Headquarter Hospital Haripur as teaching hospital for its trainee specialists which would help improve the healthcare services in the crucial areas of orthopaedy, gynae, medical and cardiology.

This was disclosed by Dr Javed Iqbal Khan, chairman Provincial Doctors Association, Haripur chapter, during a ceremony held at a local hotel here on Friday. He said CPSP had established a regional centre in Abbottabad for the specialised training of doctors and as part of the training certain number of the future’s specialists would have to undergo final training before their fellowship at the periphery hospitals.

He said Haripur DHQ was also listed as a teaching hospital for those trainee medical officers (TMOs) or the trainee specialists. During their final practical training, he said, TMOs from gynae, medical, cardiology and orthopaedic departments would spend the mandatory period of six months.

He said the addition of TMOs in the four departments would help improve the healthcare services by shouldering the burden of existing strength of specialists. Dr Javed Iqbal expressed the hope that declaring DHQ Haripur as teaching hospital for TMOs in the four main areas would help reduce dependence on the tertiary care hospitals of Abbottabad and other cities that mostly treat the patients from Haripur in emergency situations.

District Health Officer Dr Nasir Shah, Dr Sajjad Khan, Dr Atiq, Dr Tahir Angez, Dr Akhtar Zaman and ZakirTanoli were among those who spoke on the occasion.
