MOHMAND: Three brothers are contesting elections for one seat of National Assembly and two seats of provincial assembly in Mohmand tribal district.

Senator Hilal Rehman is contesting for PK-68 and his younger brother is vying for PK-67 while former MNA Bilal Rehman is in the race for NA-26.

According to observers, a tough competition is expected on NA-26 among Bilal Rehman, PTI former MNA Sajid Khan Mohmand and JUI-F candidate Mufti Mohammad Arif Haqqani.

Other candidates for NA-26 include ANP former MPA Nisar Ahmad, Mohammad Saeed Khan of Jamaat-i-Islami, Abdul Waheed Khan of PPP and Malik Zar Khan Safi of PML-N.

The total population of Mohmand tribal district is 553,933 as per census report 2022. There are a total of 359,045 registered voters in the district including 206,785 men and 152,260 women.

There are 12 candidates in the run for NA-26 while 17 are vying for PK-67 and 19 for PK-68.

The turnout in Mohmand remained 23 per cent during 2008, 30.16 per cent in 2013 and 36.04 per cent in 2018 general elections. However, it is expected that turnout will remain low in the district during the upcoming elections.
