RAWALPINDI: To promote the ginger cultivation in the country especially in Potohar region, a ginger festival was arranged in a small village on Chak Beli Khan Road near Rawat.
Farmers, experts from agriculture universities visited the ginger farms owned by private farmers in village Dawri. The event was arranged in collaboration with Agri-Tourism Club of Agri-toursim Development Corporation Pakistan.
For successful ginger cultivation field and training, Dr Aamir Latif who is ginger scientist of Ayub Agriculture Research Institute Faisalabad and he is an expert of ginger cultivation in Pakistan gave a detailed lecture and training on the successful cultivation of ginger.
Khawaja Mazhar informed the visitor details of first ever ginger theme village Dawri.
He said that it was surprising that the country of 24 million people and a highly agricultural country, only knows how to eat ginger - not grow it.
He said they could produce 100,000 tons of ginger for daily needs.
He said that the basic aim of the festival to create awareness among the farmers to grow ginger and get benefit from this crop.
“The first ginger tourism village is being established in Pakistan, and the first annual national ginger harvest festival in the history of Pakistan is being held there. National Ginger Day is being celebrated,” he said.
