HARIPUR: The Saddar police arrested a man nominated in a kidnapping and assault case of a 10-year-old boy from Rawalpindi.

Officials said Furqan Sabir from Dhaka Chakahee village had kidnapped a boy from Rawalpindi and brought him to Haripur, where he assaulted him.

On the complaint of the victim’s family, the police raided a hideout, recovered the boy and arrested the accused, they added.

Meanwhile, the police claimed on Saturday to have arrested a robber wanted in different criminal activities during a raid near Padhana Chowk here on Saturday morning.

Officials said following a spike in robbery incidents, the police traced a gang of robbers, and on the basis of an intelligence report, a party raided a point near the Padhana Chowk near the Afghan camp No 3, where three armed men were hiding with an intention to commit a robbery.

The officials said on seeing the police the accused opened fire, but the cops escaped unhurt. However, they claimed one of the robbers was injured in the firing by his accomplices, and the police arrested him. However, two robbers managed to escape.

The arrested robber was identified as Allah Mohammad, an Afghan refugee. He was wanted by the police in a case of robbery registered in the Khalabat Township police station.

The injured was shifted to the trauma centre.
