SAHIWAL: Candidate for NA-140 and PP-196 Naeem Ibrahim, former MPA of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) from Arifwala, was shifted to Pakpattan from Multan in a corruption case registered with the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE), Pakpattan.

He was shifted to Pakpattan after the Pakpattan ACE secured his transitory remand from the Multan district magistrate. He was arrested at the Multan airport on his return from Dubai late on Monday.

Mr Ibrahim is already on bail in two criminal cases. The first case was registered in Lahore over his alleged involvement in May 9 incidents. The second case was registered with the Pakpattan ACE, where he is accused of occupying state land. Now, he is in the ACE custody in a bribe-related case.

Amir Ibrahim, Naeem’s brother, told Dawn that the two cases - land acquisition and bribery - against his brother were bogus and politically motivated. He said the main purpose of these cases was to prevent Naeem from contesting the upcoming election.

He said no one would give smooth riding to PML-N candidates in Arifwala, and Naeem would contest the election even from jail.
