PESHAWAR: A local court has convicted a man and sentenced him to death for killing his aunt and her daughter-in-law while committing robbery at their residence over nine years ago.

The additional sessions judge, Abdul Qayyum Siddiqui, ruled that the prosecution had proved its case against the accused Imran Khan, a resident of Shabqadar in Charsadda district, and the evidence on record connected him with the commission of the offence.

The court also declared as proclaimed offender an absconding co-accused, Ibrahim, who is brother-in-law of the convict, and issued his perpetual arrest warrants.

Advocate Ishfaq Ahmad Afridi appeared for the complainant side and stated that the accused had brutally killed his aunt and her daughter-in-law at their residence on Sept 25, 2014, and had also taken away their jewellery and some cash.

He stated that the FIR of the occurrence was registered on complaint of Jamil Anwar, son of one of the deceased and cousin of the convict at Faqirabad police station.

He stated that the accused had gone into hiding but was later on arrested on Oct 13, 2014.

He argued that on pointation of the accused the police had also recovered the robbed items including the jewellery.

He said that the accused had taken the robbed item to Sialkot, where his brother-in-law and co-accused Ibrahim was working at a marriage hall. He added that they had buried the said items at an under construction building.

The counsel stated that the prime accused had also recorded his confessional statement before the magistrate.

He stated that earlier the accused was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment by the trial court. However, he added that on his appeal the Federal Shariat Court had remanded back his case to the trial court on technical grounds.

He argued that the accused had slit throats of the deceased woman and he did not deserve any leniency.
