MIRPURKHAS: Economic massacre of the farmers in Sindh continues due to acute shortage of fertiliser and its sale in black.

This was stated at a joint press conference held on Sunday at Digri Press Club by Qaumi Awami Tehreek (QAT) leader and Sindhi Hari Tehreek central president Anwer Nohani and other local activists Majeed Bughio, Kashif Khaskheli, Kirar Labari and Shaukat Nohani.

They alleged that the crisis of urea was deliberately created as dealers and factories of fertiliser were in Sindh, but the product was not available in the province with the result that small farmers had been suffering losses. It seemed as if small farmland owners were being deprived of the fertiliser to force them into selling their fertile lands to the outsiders and big landlords, they added.

They urged the higher authorities to adopt an easy procedure to ensure supply of the fertiliser to the farmers at the government-controlled rate so that they could protect their cultivated crops.

The local leaders alleged that the caretaker Sindh government and bureaucracy ensured continuity of the PPP policies. In each department, massive corruption continued without any fear of accountability, they added.

The deplored that the lining of Jamrao Canal could not be completed even after observing the rotation programmes based on long periods. It was done only to supply more water to big landlords and feudal lords, they alleged. They demanded of the higher authorities to order a high-level impartial inquiry into incomplete lining work of Jamrao Canal.

The local leaders announced the QAT representatives would contest in the forthcoming general election on each and every MPA and MNA seat in Mirpurkhas district.

They said Anwer Nohani would contest in PS-48 of Digri and PS-47 of Kot Ghulam Muhammad while Kirar Labari to contest on the National Assembly seat.
