KARACHI, Feb 19: Various localities hooked to the Hub dam source will face water shortage on Monday owing to suspension of pumping due to power failure at Hub pumping station on Sunday.

According to the KWSB sources, electricity went off at 5.10pm and was restored at 5.45pm, causing a shortfall of 3.5 million gallons.

The localities which would suffer water shortage on Monday include sprawling townships of Orangi, Baldia, North Karachi, Shershah and Site (both residential and industrial areas).

Power failure also occurred at Jamila pumping station on Sunday, resulting in an overflow of sewage in certain parts of the old city area.

KWSB official said that although there was no power supply at Jamila pumping station between 4.50pm and 5.30pm on Sunday, the KWSB used its own generators to contain the overflow of sewage. “Had we not switched over to generator, there overflowing sewage would have affected various parts of Saddar Town,” he added.

Meanwhile, filthy water gushing out of a choked nullah near Empress Market inundated the roads around Saddar Dawakhana, hampering a smooth flow of vehicular traffic and causing problems to pedestrians, besides creating an unhygienic condition in the whole locality.

People residing in the nearby apartment blocks said concerned officials of the Cantonment Board had neither taken any measures to rectify the fault responsible for it.
