LAHORE: A suspect arrested in a drug case reportedly died from torture in the custody of investigation wing police of South Cantonment on Tuesday.

Identified as Ishaq, the suspect breathed his last in a private hospital where he was shifted by the police on Rescue 1122 ambulance early on Monday.

The Lahore DIG ordered an inquiry into the death of the suspect saying that it seemed he was a chronic drug addict.

He said according to the initial inquiry report, the suspect was arrested for possessing the drug and the police had sent him behind bars on Sunday night.

He said the investigation officers denied the torture of the suspect declaring his death due to’natural causes’.

However, an inquiry has been ordered to dig out the facts, the DIG said.
