MUZAFFARGARH: A 35-year-old woman, a resident of neighbourhood Qadirabad in Khangarh, set herself ablaze after the theft of her household goods, including dowry items.

She took the extreme step before reporting the crime to the police.

After receiving initial aid at the Khangarh Rural Health Centre and Muzaffargarh District Headquarters Hospital, Zahida Bibi was shifted to Nishtar Hospital, Multan.

Up to 60 per cent of her body suffered severe burns as she used petrol to set herself on fire.

Zahida’s family said she had spent two days at her close relatives’ house, where her gold ornaments, clothes and other belongings were stolen.

The district police officer has instructed the Saddar Circle DSP to ensure the woman receives proper treatment and to conduct a thorough investigation into the theft incident.
