KHAIRPUR, Feb 13: Four jail officials and four prisoners were injured in a clash between staff and prisoners in the Khairpur central prison on Monday morning. When barracks were opened, about 30 prisoners protested at the main Chakkar and raised slogans against the jail administration for not providing medicines and adequate food.

About 30 prisoners climbed on the top of barracks 9 and 10.

They said that the jail staff created problems for relatives who visited the prisoners in jail.

The injured prisoners were identified as Hyder Junejo, Bakar Junejo and Baboo Machhi.

Four jail officials Anwar Panhwar, Hassan Sehto, Basheer Vistro and Dilawar were also injured.

The injured police constable Bashir Vistro was admitted to the civil hospital.

The jail administration called police forces to control the situation.

The prisoners ended their protest after negotiations with officials of the district police.

It may be mentioned that the jail superintendent was suspended following escape of three prisoners from the civil hospital and the post was lying vacant since October 2005.

When contacted, the jail administration said that some 12-13 prisoners had climbed on the top of barracks and were making illegal demands who were controlled by the district police.
