BAHAWALPUR: A couple contracting court marriage recently was allegedly shot dead by the bride’s relatives over ‘honour’ in their house at 112-10 R village near Jahania in Khanewal district.

According to police sources, Nasir Ramzan Gill (23) and Rimsha Afzal Sindhu had contracted a court marriage about a month back.

However, Rimsha’s family was not happy with her court marriage and forcibly detained her in their house.

Her husband moved the Lahore High Court with a plea to recover his wife. On the court’s order Rimsha was recovered from her parents, and after giving a statement of consent, was allowed to go with her husband by the judge.

The couple started living in a separate house at 112-10 R village near Jahania.

The sources said that in the wee hours of Wednesday, Nasir’s in-laws Adeal Afzal, Zubair Afzal, Huseana Bibi and an unidentified man allegedly sneaked into his house and opened fire on the couple who were asleep.

As a result, Rimshaw died on the spot, while her husband Nasir succumbed to his wounds on his way to hospital.

Police reached the scene and shifted the bodies to the Jahania Tehsil Headquarters Hospital for the postmortem examination.

Police say a double-murder case has been registered against four suspects, without any arrest so far.

GANG BUSTED: Hasilpur police claimed to have busted a swindlers’ gang arresting its four members.

As per police the arrested gang members –Muhammad Ali, Rauf Khan, Tanzeel and Zahid Iqbal, belonging to Okara – would impersonate army personnel and loot unsuspecting people.

They allegedly deprived a landlord of Rs2.4 million five days ago, the police say.

A police team formed by DPO Syed Muhammad Abbas Shah, on receipt of the complaint, with the help of latest IT gadgets and geofencing traced and arrested the suspects and recovered the looted amount from them. Further investigation was in progress.
