BAJAUR: A prayer leader was killed in what police said a targeted attack in Mamond tehsil here on Sunday.

Dilawar Khan, SHO Mamond police station, told reporters that unknown assailants fired at Qari Mohammad Qasim, 42, killing him on the spot.

He said the locals chased the attackers, but they managed to escape. He said Qasim was a prayer leader at a mosque in his native Laghari area.

No one claimed responsibility of the attack.

Meanwhile, sources in the police said on Oct 4, unknown assailants had shot dead Maulana Tilla Mohammad in Shinkoot area of Khar tehsil when he was on way to offer evening payers.

They said the latest incident took place just two days after Zainul Abideen, a payer leader in Inayat Kallay, came under attack on Friday. He was critically wounded in the attack.

“Investigation is under way to trace those involved in the murder,” a senior police official told Dawn, adding a team visited the crime scene and also collected evidence, besides recording statements of witnesses.

Meanwhile, one person was killed after unknown persons, sitting with him in the same vehicle, fired at him in Gul Bela area of Salarzai tehsil on Sunday afternoon.

The police said the assailants first pushed the man outside the car and then started firing at him, killing him on the spot and escaped. The deceased was identified as Fazal Mohammad, a resident of Litai area of Salarzai.
