GILGIT: The federal government has appointed Abrar Ahmad Mirza as the new Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) chief secretary while Mohyuddin Ahmed Wani has been directed to report to the Establishment Division.

According to a notification issued by the Establishment Division on Tuesday evening, Abrar Ahmed Mirza, a BS-21 officer of the Pakistan Administrative Service, presently posted as additional secretary, Petroleum Division, has been transferred and posted as chief secretary Gilgit-Baltistan with immediate effect and until further orders.

Source said Chief Secretary Mohyuddin Ahmed Wani had been directed to report to the Establishment Division, adding that it was a routine posting and transfer as Mr Wani had been serving on the post for the last 20 months.

In his statement, Mr Wani said it had been an immense honour to serve the beautiful region of Gilgit-Baltistan as chief secretary for the past 19 months.

“During my tenure, I wholeheartedly dedicated myself to the welfare of the people of GB, giving my very best to uplift the lives of its residents,” he said.

Mohyuddin Ahmed Wani said his focus had been on the often-neglected sectors of education, health and information technology, recognising that human development was paramount.

“I am deeply touched by the love and affection I have received from the incredible people of Gilgit-Baltistan. Your warmth and support has meant the world to me, and I want to assure you that I will continue to be your ambassador for as long as I live,” he added.
