KARACHI: Sindh police chief Riffat Mukhtar Raja on Sunday directed traffic police to install 10 surface-mounted device (SMD) screens on main roads to keep people informed about traffic congestion and alternative routes as well as uplift works affecting the flow of vehicular traffic.

He issued these directions during a visit to the office of the DIG-traffic.

He said programmes to raise awareness of traffic laws and prevent accidents should be arranged at educational institutes.

DIG Iqbal Dara briefed the police chief that automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras were being installed at 26 places on Sharea Faisal and other roads for monitoring traffic.

He said the traffic police required more personnel.
