MIRPURKHAS, Feb 6: Former Indian foreign minister and leader of opposition in the Rajya Sabha Jaswant Singh has proposed that the Mithi-Kutch border between Pakistan and India be opened after the reopening of the Khokhrapar-Munabao route.

Mr Singh said a goods carriage should be attached to the Thar Express for trade between the two countries.

The proposals were made by Mr Singh at a luncheon hosted by District Nazim of Mirpurkhas Dr Kaneez Sughra at the circuit house on Monday.

People’s Party Parliamentarian MNA Syed Qurban Ali Shah, Asad Ali Junejo, District Naib Nazim Dr Zafar Kamali, DCO Khurshid Naeem Malik, Umerkot District Nazim Faqeer Manghan Mangrio, Khair Mohammad Bhurgari, former MPA Hari Ram Kishori Lal, Lachhmandas Parvani, Ramsingh Sodho, Mirpurkhas Taluka Nazim Ghulam Dastagir Kamali, Naib Nazim Shafiq Ahmad and local body representatives attended the programme.

Jaswant Singh emphasized the need for promoting trade between the two countries through the Munabao-Khokhrapar border.

He said he had received unprecedented hospitality from the people of Pakistan.

Dr Sughra welcomed the decision to open the Munabao-Khokhrapar route and added that other issues between the two countries should be solved through negotiations.

She said the people of the two countries had very old relations and it was a long-standing demand of the people to open the border.

She said the people of the district had accorded a warm welcome to the Indian delegation.

Earlier, Sindhi ajrak and caps were given to members of the Indian delegation.
