LARKANA, Feb 6: Larkana DIG Akhtar Hassan Gorchani on Monday ordered an inquiry into custodial death of Abdul Ghaffar Shaikh. The deceased had been arrested by the Jacobabad police for allegedly kidnapping and killing a boy.

Mr Gorchani told newsmen that the Jacobabad district police officer (investigation) would conduct the inquiry and submit a report within a week.

He ordered arrest of police officials involved in the death of Ghaffar Shaikh and suspended Jacobabad DSP Khuda Bakhsh Panhwer, city SHO Mukhtar Soomro, investigation officer Jamaluddin Jamali and three other policemen.

The DIG said that Larkana, Mirokhan and Shahdadkot were declared sensitive in the month of Muharram.

He said that Rangers would assist police in keeping the law and order in control.

He directed SHOs of Larkana to allow mourning processions to pass through approved routes only.

MMA: General secretary of the Sindh Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal, Dr Khalid Mehmood Soomro, has condemned military ‘operation’ in Balochistan and said it was not the solution of problems.

In a press statement issued here on Monday, he said the Balochistan problem could only be solved through dialogue and not power.

Dr Soomro demanded that all provinces be treated equally.

“Rulers should not make decisions only to please Punjab,” he maintained.

He said the federal government should only control defence, foreign affairs, currency and communication.
