KARACHI, Feb 5: Five persons, including a traffic policeman, died in separate road accidents in different parts of the city on Sunday. Police said that motorcyclist Muhammad Abid and his friend Fayyaz were injured when a speeding truck hit them near Landhi Charagh Hotel. The speeding truck escaped from the spot following the accident. The injured were taken to the JPMC, where Abid was pronounced dead on arrival while Fayyaz was provided treatment.

In another hit-and-accident, a motorcyclist died in New Karachi Industrial Area early Sunday morning.

Police said Syed Baqir Ali was on motorcycle when a speeding vehicle knocked him down. He was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital after a considerable delay, where he was pronounced dead.

Two motorcyclists died and another was seriously injured in an accident near Beach Avenue.

Police said that Ali Nawaz and Tariq Saeed died while the wounded victim could not be identified. The bodies and the injured were shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.

According to police, one of the two motorcycles was without its headlight.

In Site, a traffic policeman was crushed beneath a heavy vehicle.

Police said that the traffic policeman, Khizar, on his motorcycle was trying to intercept a trailer carrying coal consignment. However, the long-vehicle knocked him down. He died before he could be taken to the hospital. Police arrested the driver identified as Jehangir and impounded the truck.

79 nabbed: Police on Sunday nabbed 79 people from a cinema including some management officials for screening and viewing obscene films.

ASP Garden Rai Ajaz, who went to the Reno cinema in a disguise, called in rest of the police force and carried out the raid.

The owner of the cinema is still at large.
