NAROWAL: Sialkot police on Thursday foiled a suicide bid and rescued a mother of four who jumped into the canal over poverty.

Sialkot District Police Spokesman Khurram Shahzad said helpline 15 received a call that a woman had jumped into the canal from Daska Bridge to commit suicide.

A Daska city police team was asked to reach the spot. The team rescued the woman with the help of locals.

After receipt of information, a Rescue 1122 team also reached the spot and provided first aid to woman Shabina Bibi (35).

The woman said she had four children and there was nothing to eat in the house and her husband was unemployed.

Meanwhile, Rescue Media Coordinator Muhammad Waseem said 20-year-old Saad Ali, a resident of Minapur, committed suicide by putting a noose around his neck due to unemployment, poverty and inflation.
