ISLAMABAD: US Ambassador Donald Blome has said that Pakistan has tremendous economic potential and the US is working every day to help Pakistan make progress on economic reforms that will make it more competitive and better prepared to meet future challenges.

Mr Blome expressed these views at a meeting with Punjab Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi during his visit to Lahore, says a US Embassy press release issued here on Wednesday.

The meeting was meant to promote US-Pakistan trade and economic ties and broaden and deepen cooperation with the people and government of Punjab.

The US ambassador also discussed with the Punjab caretaker chief minister the importance of protecting and respecting human rights and fundamental freedoms for all.

In his meetings with representatives of religious groups, the US ambassador and Consul General Hawkins reiterated US condemnation of recent attacks on Christian churches and homes and emphasised the US commitment to protect and promote religious freedom, and underscored the importance of protecting and respecting human rights and fundamental freedoms for all.
