KOHAT: The police on Friday arrested two arms smugglers, a proclaimed offender and his facilitator, in separate actions.

The police said the arms smugglers, Ali Baz and Sawar Gul, were coming from Darra Adamkhel tribal subdivision on a motorcycle. They were arrested at the Chor Lakki cross, and three Kalashnikovs, six magazines, cartridges and a pistol were recovered from their possession.

Also on Friday, the police arrested a proclaimed offender wanted in an attempted murder case and his facilitator.

The outlaw was identified as Waseem.

The police also arrested a drug dealer and recovered five kilogrammes of hashish and 250 grams of ice drug from him.

Separately, the district administration on Friday launched an operation to remove dangerous LPG cylinders from rickshaws.

Assistant commissioner Usam Ashraf, traffic in-charge Faheem Bangash and secretary Road Transport Authority Mohammad Shoeb launched the operation at the busy Kutchery Chowk, removing LPG cylinders from a number of rickshaws. They warned others to remove cylinders within 15 days or face action.

Traffic police in-charge Faheem Bangash asked the transporters, especially rickshaw and van owners, to immediately comply with the orders.

POLLS SECURITY: Kohat deputy commissioner Dr Azamatullah Wazir, while chairing a meeting on Friday, reviewed the security arrangements for the local government by-elections to be held on Sunday (Aug 27).

A local election commission official, Nauman Khan told the meeting that in the Darra Adamkhel tribal subdivision a vacant seat of youth had already been decided unopposed as one of the candidates had withdrawn from the race.

He said in Shakardarra, by-polls would be held in Sarkidhal and Rehmanabad, where five and three polling stations, respectively, had been established.

The participants were told that CCTV cameras were being installed both in and outside of the polling stations.

INJURED: A woman and a minor girl were injured when stray bullets hit them on Friday.

The woman was strolling in the yard of her house in the KDA Township when she was hit by a stray bullet.

The woman was taken to a major hospital in Peshawar in critical condition as the bullet stuck inside her brain.

Similarly, a little girl, Gul, sustained injury on her harm when a stray bullet struck her in Tanda Dam. She was taken to a hospital where doctors removed the bullet.
