A FORD motor assembly plant is shortly going to start work in Karachi. An assembly shed has already been constructed near the Karachi Port Trust building and work on another factory building is proceeding at a brisk pace. Most of the machinery has already arrived in Karachi and is being erected. Messrs Wazir Ali Amjad Ali have secured the agency for Ford cars in Pakistan and have also an interest in the assembly plant. The assembly plant, it is stated, will, besides meeting the car requirements of Pakistan, serve as a distributing centre for Ford cars in the whole of the Middle East. …[A]s soon as the [second factory] is complete, Ali Automobiles hope to be able to assemble about 15 cars daily. The present turn-out capacity is only 5 cars daily. The Company has been started with a capital of Rs 50,00,000 and is to open branches in Lahore and Rawalpindi soon. — Dawn Special Correspondent
