KARACHI, Feb 3: All the 18 town municipal administrations (TMAs) will, simultaneously, launch fumigation campaign in a couple of days.

Sources in the city government told Dawn that a notification has been issued by the city Nazim, Syed Mustafa Kamal, to all the TMAs.

Quoting nazim’s notification, the sources said that the nazim has desired that all towns should undertake sprays in a couple of days.

The nazim, he added, has asked the TMAs to prepare their fumigation programmes in a way that all union councils are covered in a planned and systematic manner, ensuring utilisation of newly imported fogging machines.

The CDGK has recently imported 56 new fogging machines and each town has been given three such machines to undertake fumigation campaign in an effective manner.

Meanwhile, the city government’s district officer (Fumigation) has been directed by the city nazim to coordinate with the TMAs on behalf of the CDGK.

Sources in the CDGK said that fumigation drive has been necessitated in the wake of increasing cases of malaria as various parts of the city have been invaded by mosquitoes.

Asked what measures were being taken to ensure elimination of larva breeding in those major city nullahs, most of which are passing through the Old City area and where a number of markets have been constructed, leaving no access for malaria staff to undertake the fumigation work, an official of the CDGK replied: “We are definitely helpless in this regard.”
