KARACHI: A suspected robber was caught and beaten up by a mob before someone from among the people shot him dead in Khuda ki Basti, Surjani Town, on Thursday evening, according to rescue services.

An Edhi Foundation spokesperson said that the unknown man, in his mid-30s, was caught by people in Usman Brohi Goth on suspicion of being a robber.

The mob subjected him to severe beating and someone also fired a shot on him. The man was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.

Man held for harassing woman in public

The Ittehad Town police arrested a suspect on Thursday claiming that he was seen harassing a woman in a video that had gone viral on the social media recently.

The area police said that the woman, a teacher, was subjected to harassment at a public place in Ittehad Town.

A police spokesman said that the South DIG Irfan Ali Baloch had taken notice of the incident after the video went viral. The Ittehad Town police with the help of CCTV footage, traced out the suspect and arrested him, he said, and identified him as Faizan, a guard associated with a private security company. The suspect is a resident of Saddam Chowk, in Ittehad Town, the spokesman said, adding that he was in the habit of harassing women teachers in the locality.

A case was registered against him under Section 345 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

SRA claims grenade attack

A proscribed separatist outfit, Sindhudesh Revolutionary Army, on Thursday claimed responsibility for the late Wednesday night grenade attack on police near Safoora Chowrangi.

The Sachal police said that a police mobile van, patrolling in the area, was attacked with a grenade near Rim Jhim Tower by unknown suspects riding a motorcycle.

As a result, they said, three policemen were wounded and the vehicle was damaged. The wounded policemen were taken to a hospital, where their condition was stated to be out of danger, they added.

The SRA claimed responsibility for the attack through the social media.
