Indulge in the this delectable apple crumble dessert, which is full of the natural sweetness of diced apples, complemented by the zing of lemon juice, a symphony of granulated and brown sugars, and the comforting warmth of cinnamon.

Apples are plentiful these days and I like to use fresh fruits of the season in recipes as nothing can beat the richness of their taste. In this recipe, the apples melt into a luscious filling, with the crumble topping bringing together the delightful flavours of brown sugar, all-purpose flour, quick cook oats and butter, interwoven with the comforting aroma of cinnamon, to create a buttery, textured crown for the dish.

The process is very simple, just as the recipe, with only combining of ingredients in two different bowls and then layering them before baking. As the oven transforms these humble ingredients into a bubbling, caramelised masterpiece, the kitchen becomes an aromatic haven.

Served warm, each bite offers a harmonious contrast between the soft, tender apple filling and the satisfying crunch of the crumble. Leftovers can cosily sit in an airtight container, ready to be warmed in the microwave before serving.

Ingredients
For the filling:

• 4 medium apples, peeled and diced
• 1 tablespoon lemon juice
• 1/3 cup granulated sugar
• 1/3 cup light brown sugar packed
• 1 teaspoon cinnamon
• 1/4 cup all-purpose flour

For the crumble:

• 1 cup brown sugar
• 1 cup all-purpose flour
• 1 cup quick cook oats
• 1/2 cup unsalted butter
• 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Method

In a large bowl, combine diced apples with lemon juice, sugars, cinnamon and flour. Keep aside.

In a separate bowl, combine the crumble ingredients. In an oven proof dish, about 8-inch square or any size, spread the filling mixture, then top with the crumble mixture, pressing lightly.

Bake in a 375 degree pre-heated oven for 45-50 minutes, until bubbly and caramelised. Enjoy warm. For leftovers, store in airtight container, in the fridge, and warm in the microwave before serving. You can serve a warm apple crumble with a scoop of ice cream for a delightful combination of both warm and cold in a single dessert!
