ABBOTTABAD: Independent candidate Uzair Khan retained his family seat of Havelian tehsil council chairman by securing 21,464 votes in the bypolls, whose unofficial results were announced here on Sunday night. Iftikhar Khan Jadoon of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf remained runner-up with 18,521votes.

The PML-N candidate Malik Talha Asif stood third with 14,892 votes.

A total of 57,164 votes were polled with total turnout standing 35.26 per cent.

Percentage of votes polled by males and females stood at 38.30 per cent and 31.80 per cent, respectively.

Polling was largely held peacefully.

However, a scuffle took place between the rival groups at the office of the returning officer, but the police and administration officials promptly intervened to pacify the situation.
