ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue has appointed Malik Amjad Zubair Tiwana, an officer of the Inland Revenue Service, as the new chairman of FBR, an official source told Dawn on Monday.

Currently posted as a member operation of IRS, Mr Tiwana was made the new chairman of FBR by the federal cabinet through a circulation summary.

A formal notification for Mr Tiwana’s appointment is likely to be issued on Tuesday.

The current FBR chairman, Mr Asim Ahmad, was appointed by the PML-N-led coalition government on April 27 last year and he retired on July 30.

Many officers were in the run for the top position from IRS, Customs and Pakistan Administration Services, but according to the official, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar approved the summary of Mr Tiwana for the top FBR post.

The government has projected a revenue collection target of Rs9.415 trillion for the current fiscal year compared to the revised collection of Rs7.2tr in the previous fiscal year, showing an increase of Rs2.219tr, or 30pc.
