KOHAT: The Hangu police arrested four militants, including two commanders of the outlawed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan, during an operation conducted in the mountainous Torawari village here on Monday.

Officials and tribal sources said the commanders led their own powerful group. They said commanders, Hafiz Daulatullah and Mumtaz, belonging to Kurram district, were associated with the Amiti group of TTP.

The officials said the Doaba mountains, used by militants as their base camp, linked Hangu, Orakzai, Kurram, Waziristan and the tribal subdivision of Darra Adamkhel.

They said Afghan SIM cards, four remote-controlled explosive devices, four hand grenades and 250 cartridges of various weapons were also recovered from them.

The Doaba police said the mobile phone SIMs seized from the militants indicated their communication with their handlers across the border.

WOMAN RECOVERED: A woman, who was allegedly kidnapped with her children four months ago from Tor Chappar area here, was recovered from Karachi by the Kohat police on Monday.

A team led by DSP Yousuf Khan and Saddar police station SHO Islamuddin located the woman with the help of their counterparts in Karachi. They said the woman was living with a man after marrying him.

The man was also brought to Kohat along with the woman and her children.

The accused told the police she had married him of her own sweet will because her husband used to beat her.

RAILCAR SERVICE: City mayor Qari Sher Zaman and chairman of businessmen alliance Haji Abid Khan on Monday demanded adding extra coaches to the Rawalpindi-Kohat railcar service or launching an evening service as the passengers were forced to travel while standing in the train.

They regretted that instead of adding extra bogies one bogy had been removed increasing the miseries of commuters.

Meanwhile, station master Saleem Marwat told Dawn the railcar service was earning a daily profit of Rs250,000. He admitted two more bogies were required on an urgent basis to accommodate the growing number of passengers.

Mr Marwat said they had been requesting the railways headquarters for more bogies for over a year, but to no avail.

ARREST: The police arrested a couple while carrying hashish from Peshawar to Mianwali district of Punjab in a car during checking of vehicles at the tunnel toll plaza here on Monday.

DSP Saddar Yousuf Khan and SHO Islamuddin stopped a car coming from Peshawar, and during search, found six kilogrammes of fine quality hashish from its secret cavities.

The police registered a case against the couple, identified as Ms Nasreen and her husband, Ishtiaq. They belonged to Peshawar.
